Gary P. Blanchard, M.D.
"As a geriatrician, it’s important that I partner with patients to focus on the health concerns that matter most to them to improve their well being, quality of life, happiness and symptom relief."
Dr. Gary Blanchard is a Geriatrician at the Saint Vincent Hospital-Worcester Medical Center location of Saint Vincent Medical Group. Dr. Blanchard specializes in treating older patients with a variety of health issues, using an interdisciplinary model that addresses the multiple needs of a patient through a team-based approach, stressing communication among all involved in a patient’s care.
Focusing on addressing the health issues that are important to his patients, Dr. Blanchard works with them to develop a care plan that best suits their needs. “Delivering care that is mindful of what’s vital to each patient in their daily life helps ensure that they can remain independent in their own home for as long as possible, which is the main goal of most of the patients I treat.”
Dr. Blanchard advises patients to focus on attaining wellness through manageable daily physical activity, such as walking. “Even if it’s walking once around the block or in the grocery store, there’s no medication that can rival the benefits of daily exercise. It’s one of the few interventions that is totally devoid of possible side effects.”
Board-certified in Internal Medicine and Geriatric Medicine, Dr. Blanchard completed his residency and chief residency at Saint Vincent Hospital in Worcester, Massachusetts. He completed a geriatrics fellowship at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island and received his medical degree from Tufts University School of Medicine. As an academic clinician-educator, Dr. Blanchard has been able to develop original geriatrics curriculum at the medical student, nursing student and resident level with the help of a federal grant.
