WELCOMING NEW PATIENTS
“My highest priority is to keep a patient-centered focus to help each patient through the treatment and healing process in the best way possible. It is also an important part of my job to stay current with the best ways to stay healthy, incorporating new information into my practice and bringing that to each patient visit."
Dr. Diane Lockhart is a Breast Surgeon and the Medical Director of the Breast Care Program at the Saint Vincent Cancer & Wellness Center. Viewing her role as more clinical than administrative, Dr. Lockhart is directly involved in the care of the patients that she sees.
“I am responsible for performing surgery for my patients, but my role continues as I help them to navigate the process of our treatment and health-care system. Our entire team is mindful to work with patients within the context of their lives. We aim to assist them through a difficult time as they go through the treatment they need and emerge at its completion to regain productive lives."

Dr. Lockhart emphasizes the importance of a program that is patient centered. “We view each person as an individual beyond their diagnosis. And we are aware that patients have families and lives that may need support as they receive treatment for their medical condition.”
The Breast Care Program at Saint Vincent Cancer & Wellness Center provides treatment for breast cancer, as well as services to monitor and help maintain breast health. “Breast cancer care has changed dramatically in recent years, enabling us to identify the genetic makeup of tumors and tailor more or less aggressive treatments as needed. This enables us to optimize results while avoiding any unnecessary pain for patients.”
Dr. Lockhart was recently featured in the Worcester Business Journal.
Board-certified by the American College of Surgery, Dr. Lockhart belongs to numerous medical societies, including the American Association of Breast Surgeons, the Massachusetts Medical Society and the New England Surgical Society.
Dr. Lockhart formerly served as Director of the Cambridge Breast Center at Cambridge Hospital. Prior to that, she was a staff surgeon at Brigham & Women’s Hospital, Dana Farber Cancer Institute and Faulkner Hospital, while working for Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates. From 2000-2013, she was a clinical instructor of surgery for both Harvard Medical School and Tufts University School of Medicine students and trained surgical residents at attending hospitals.
Dr. Lockhart completed the UMass Surgical Residency Program, followed by a research fellowship in a tumor immunology lab at Brigham & Women’s Hospital, and she earned her medical degree at the University of Massachusetts Medical School. Before she became a physician, Dr. Lockhart pursued a productive career as a nurse after graduating Cum Laude with a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing Science from Boston University.
