Pulmonary Medicine

Pulmonary Medicine involves the diagnosis and treatment of conditions and diseases involving the lungs, throat and airways.

Our Pulmonary Medicine team specializes in treating a broad range of health issues, including but not limited to asthma, COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease), bronchitis, emphysema, lung cancer, and pulmonary tuberculosis. Pulmonologists may assist other physicians to provide long-term care to patients with chronic conditions and also provide critical-care for seriously ill patients .

When people have difficulty breathing, the first step to diagnosis is often a PFT or pulmonary function test, which measures total lung capacity. This information can be used to identify the problem and execute a treatment plan suited to the condition of each patient.

Our Pulmonary Specialists can offer treatment methods for patients that include breathing medications and oxygen therapy, as well as recommendations about lifestyle changes that can enhance quality of life.

When applicable, Pulmonary Medicine Specialists at Saint Vincent Medical Group coordinate care with Saint Vincent’s Thoracic Surgeons to develop a surgical course of treatment that will further improve respiratory function.  New advances in medicine offered to our patients include CyberKnife® treatment, a nonsurgical treatment for patients with both lung cancer and emphysema, which yields positive results with a faster recovery.

The Pulmonary Medicine Practice can be found at the Worcester Medical Center location.
